puits aux amours, 2022
interactive sound sculpture

Puits aux amours refers to the myth of the Trevi Fountain, popularized by the film Fontaine des amours (Three Coins in the Fountain by Jean Negulesco, 1954), which tells us that anyone who throws coins into the fountain with their back turned will guarantee love and marriage. By focusing on this gesture, Camille Poitevin raises the possibility of its absurdity, questioning the vow it symbolizes, and thus our relationship to love.  The sculpture activates when a coin is dropped into the water : a hydrophone is immersed in the water and connected to a sound automation system that randomly modifies the sound produced by the coin in the water. Here, the fountain is reinterpreted as a well in which desires are projected towards an infinite range of possibilities.
